+Our Mission
As healthcare costs skyrocket, millions of insured, under-insured and un-insured Americans are forced to fight for their health, welfare and lives against a billing system that increasingly puts the well-being of drug companies, hospitals and insurance companies above that of its citizens. Medical Billing Advocates of America is committed to educating and arming the public with the knowledge they need to fight this battle and win the war against escalating healthcare costs. Our mission is to ensure that no one pays a dime more than they truly owe for medical care. We believe that through our efforts and those of the public, the insurance companies can and will be forced to hold the medical billing establishment accountable for bogus, inflated charges. Working together, we can stop the healthcare providers and healthcare insurance industry from passing the cost of their errors on to the American public.
Because of our founder’s innovative new technique in consumer advocacy, more and more individuals have answered the call to help other consumers across the country. Pat Palmer personally trains our nationwide network of member advocates to perform complete reviews of individual and corporate medical bills that can help catch common--and not so common--billing errors that add millions, if not billions, of dollars to insurance costs every year.
Whether these advocates are working for their next-door neighbor, a small business, a legal firm, the local doctor’s office or a self-insured corporation, MBAA’s advocates are committed to providing this much-needed service at a time when quality, affordable healthcare is a real concern in our country. And MBAA is committed to ensuring its advocates are the best in the business.
Our proprietary advocate training programs offer a wealth of information for advocates who want to help combat the rising cost of healthcare in this country. We train our analysts to perform:
- Our copyrighted compliance hospital bill review by scrutinizing every line of every hospital bill, looking for possible duplication, non-billable services, unbundling, data entry errors that produce inappropriate charges, and coding errors in addition to strict application of, and adherence to, federal compliance billing guidelines. We also target inflated charges that cannot be justified, such as a $1,028 billing for a contrast solution that retails for $2.80.
- Additionally, we scrutinize physician, anesthesiology, radiology, pathology, ambulance, durable medical equipment, pharmacy, dental, emergency department and other outpatient billings for accuracy and compliance.
- We make sure the insurance companies pay in accordance with the terms of policy provisions.
- We conduct thorough reviews of third-party administrators' adjudication of claims payment on behalf of self-insured corporations
In addition to helping individuals and companies with their medical bills and insurance claims, we're also working hard in the public arena, increasing governmental and media awareness of medical billing issues. We challenge those medical providers who inflate charges by deviating from federal billing compliance guidelines--and we encourage providers to price their services according to a "fair and reasonable" standard for the insured, the under-insured, and the uninsured.
MBAA also monitors legislation at the local, state and national levels. Our organization has recently begun a concerted effort to increase consumer knowledge of medical billing errors and insurance reimbursement issues through a consumer membership campaign around the country, and MBAA has published a self-help workbook, The Medical Bill Workbook, that can help individuals save money on their medical bills and increase their insurance reimbursement.
